From the National Plan and Provider Enumeration System, the federal registry of health care providers, published by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services. CMS states that “issuance of an NPI does not ensure or validate that the Health Care Provider is Licensed or Credentialed.” The registry records the specialty a provider enumerated under — it does not carry licence status, so only the relevant state licensing board can confirm whether a licence is current.
