A price per unit can be a useful starting point, but it is not the price of an appointment. A written quote lets you compare the same product and scope while leaving the medical plan to a qualified clinician. Ask for the total before committing and check what may change after consultation.

1. Ask what product the quote covers

Record the product name, the area proposed and whether the quote is per unit, per area or a package. Botox Cosmetic and other botulinum toxin products are not interchangeable by counting units. The manufacturer’s Botox Cosmetic prescribing information explains that product units are specific to the preparation and assay. Ask your clinician to explain the plan for the specific product rather than attempting a conversion yourself.

2. Compare the complete estimate

Ask for an itemized estimate that includes the planned product, the number of units if known, consultation charge, facility or treatment fees, taxes where applicable and follow-up charges. The number of units appropriate for a person is a medical decision, so an estimate may change after evaluation. Get the revised total before treatment.

For illustration only, a quote of 20 units at $12 per unit totals $240 before fees; 25 units at $11 totals $275 before fees. These quantities and prices are examples, not a recommendation or a current clinic quote. A lower per-unit number can still lead to a higher total.

3. Check discount conditions

Ask whether a listed price requires a membership, advance purchase, minimum unit count, first visit, limited appointment window or treatment of multiple areas. Check expiration, cancellation and refund terms in writing. If a promotion refers to a manufacturer rewards program, confirm its current eligibility and terms with the organizer; availability may change.

4. Clarify what happens afterward

Ask what the follow-up process includes, whom to contact with questions and whether a follow-up visit or additional product would cost extra. Do not assume an adjustment is complimentary or that a particular result is guaranteed. Your clinician can explain the expected effects and potential risks for your situation.

5. Choose the provider, not just the price

Ask who evaluates you, who administers the product, what training they have and where treatment takes place. The American Academy of Dermatology's preparation guide suggests asking about experience, who will perform the procedure and the expected risks. The FDA has warned about counterfeit Botox; discuss product sourcing and any concerns with your provider.
